What We Cherish at Sonshine Kids
Nurturing Growth, One Child at a Time
Our teachers carefully observe each child's unique personality and pace.
We set individual goals, moving forward slowly and steadily, never rushing the results.
By graduation, we aim for children to achieve the English proficiency and age-appropriate life skills necessary for Japanese ementary school or international school entrance.
As a Christian school, we dedicate time each day for Bible stories and prayer.
Based on the teachings of the Bible, we hope to cultivate gentle and considerate hearts in our children.
We also collaborate with the Christian Academy in Japan (CAJ) to offer opportunities for children to interact with many English speakers outside the school, providing them with richer experiences and additional exposure to English environments.
The Three Pillars of Sonshine Kids
Since opening in 2008, we have continually enhanced our curriculum.
Our education is built on three pillars that help children learn, grow, and confidently prepare for their move to elementary school.
1. English Education: Fluent Conversation
At Sonshine Kids, our goal is for all students to use only English when speaking with friends and teachers every day.
--- Daily Conversation in 6 Months: The strength of our small class size allows teachers to stay close to each child, actively teaching the necessary vocabulary and phrases. We aim for children to acquire the daily conversational ability needed for school activities within about six months of enrollment.
--- From Conversation to Literacy: Peer-to-peer chatting and all aspects of school life are powerful tools for learning English with English conversastion as the foundation, we gradually move on to phonics, and then reading and writing.
--- Our Goal: Ultimately, we aim for children to achieve a level of English proficiency sufficient to enter and thrive in an international elementary school.
[Note] Our staff are bilingual for "just-in-case" moments. If a child is injured or requires immediate attention, we can respond quickly in Japanese to ensure their safety.
2. Life Skills: Confident Independence
We make a point of teaching various skills for independent living that children will need when they enter elementary school.
We ensure that skills such as greeting others, tidying up, maintaining cleanliness, using pens and craft tools correctly, and helping others are naturally acquired through fun daily activities and a carefully designed schedule.
3. Moral Education: Learning Love and Compassion
Early childhood is a crucial time for children to begin understanding their relationship with god and others. We teach the gospel message from daily Bible readings that we hope will impact children's hearts drawing them to love Jesus.
Through Bible stories, we teach the importance of love for others, helping one another, and forgiveness, following Jesus example.
Time to Move and Play
Growing bodies are full of energy! We set aside time for stretching and exercise to ensure our children are healthy and happy.
While we do not have a playground on-site, we incorporate daily walks to nearby parks where children can run and play freely.
Higashikurume City, where Sonshine Kids is located, is home to many wonderful parks! Sometimes, we venture out like we are on a field trip, exploring riversides and open fields.
